My name is Jessica Fischer and I am married to Ryan. We have three beautiful children, Sophie (9yrs), Raleigh (5 yrs), and Holden (1 yr). I am employed as a School Psychological Examiner for Northeast Educational Services Cooperative and Ryan works for the City of Watertown. We enjoy spending time together while camping, watching movies, and traveling.

My cancer journey started in 2018 when a Melanoma tumor was found on my left shoulder. It was surgically removed and there was no indication that it spread to any lymph nodes. A year later I had a PET Scan that showed no evidence of Melanoma in my body. I continued to see my Dermatologist every 3 months and received clear skin checks. In the beginning of May 2023, I started having headaches and blurry vision. By the end of the month, the headaches were unbearable and I scheduled an MRI. Numerous Melanoma lesions were found in my brain and I was immediately sent to Sanford in Sioux Falls. After meeting with an Oncologist and several other doctors, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma of the brain. We developed a treatment plan that consisted of 10 rounds of whole-head radiation and then immunotherapy infusion medications. I spent most of this summer in the Sanford Hospital figuring out what medications work best for my body with the least amount of side effects. I am happy to say that I am now home again with my family!
