Meet Jayne Ford

Following a colonoscopy on February 1st, 2022 the doctor told my husband and I that he found a tumor in my colon. I was 37 years old. I had been having symptoms on and off for one year including weight loss and blood in my stool. I attributed it to irritable bowel syndrome and stress. Three days later my dad passed away unexpectedly, it was one of the hardest weeks of my life. In the coming weeks I had many tests at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. After I met with an oncologist I was told the cancer had spread through the wall of the colon and to multiple lymph nodes. I was diagnosed with Stage III colorectal cancer. I started chemotherapy at Mayo Clinic Mankato on March 1st. I was blessed to have great care there. The doctors, nurses, and staff were amazing.

After 15 weeks of chemotherapy I traveled to Rochester for proton beam therapy. Following radiation I had my first surgery on July 5th to remove the tumor and place an ileostomy bag.

I will be returning to work at Mayo Clinic Heart Center in Mankato where I perform echocardiograms.  The love and support I’ve received from my coworkers is unbelievable. My next surgery is October 4th to reverse the ileostomy bag. I will be off of work for another 6 weeks.  A huge thank you to my coworker Rachel Jaqua for nominating me for a bedroom makeover.  I would also like to thank My Happy Haven for giving me the opportunity to spread awareness to colorectal cancer and giving me a beautiful room to rest and recuperate after surgery. I am forever grateful!
