Meet Kahrsen Hoveland
Kahrsen is our 13-year-old son. He has 2 siblings, Aubrey and Ruger. We also have two dogs, Thor and Tylor. Kahrsen has a deep love for wrestling and WWE.
In 2019, we started noticing concerning symptoms related to Kahrsen’s stomach. After multiple visits to doctors and the ER, we were eventually referred to a GI specialist, who diagnosed Kahrsen with Crohn’s Disease, following extensive testing including blood work and an endoscopy/colonoscopy. However, after 10 months on medication, Kahrsen’s symptoms remained unimproved. Mother’s intuition was pushing for another scope.
In January 2021, that scope revealed something unexpected. Kahrsen had a rare form of cancer called Langerhans cell histiocytosis, typically found in the bones or skin. His case was even rarer because it was present in his digestive tract. He underwent 12 months of chemotherapy, completing treatment in March 2021.
For 6 months, Kahrsen felt great. But in September 2021, his symptoms returned. After another scope, we learned that he had once again been diagnosed with Langerhans cell histiocytosis in his digestive tract. This led once again to another 12-month round of chemotherapy. After finishing his treatment in November 2022, Kahrsen was declared NED (No Evidence of Disease). By February 2023, he was in remission!
Six months later, in August 2024, Kahrsen experienced an issue that sent us to the ER. While speaking with an ENT doctor, we mentioned the abnormal cough Kahrsen had, something we had always attributed to activity-induced asthma. Further pulmonary function testing showed that asthma was not the cause, and Kahrsen’s lung function was actually strong.
In December 2024, Kahrsen underwent a bronchoscopy, which revealed nodules. Subsequent testing confirmed that his Langerhans cell histiocytosis had returned. He is now undergoing chemotherapy once every three weeks for the next year.
Kahrsen is so excited for this opportunity! He is especially excited to have his own bedroom and a space where he can relax and enjoy making his WWE videos on YouTube.
